What type of mobility equipment can I rent?

The Scootaround/Avis rental program offers most typical types of mobility equipment from three and four-wheeled scooters to manual wheelchairs and powerchairs (the latter being subject to the type of Avis motor vehicle you are renting).

Typical battery-powered scooters are manouverable, sturdy and suitable for riders up to 300lbs. Heavy duty scooters may also available upon request (and in advance) and are subject to the size of your chosen Avis motor vehicle.

How does the rental process work?

It's simple! Contact us at 1-888-441-7575 and tell the operator that you need a mobility rental to go along with your Avis motor vehicle rental. The Scootaround operator will book your mobility rental over the phone. Depending on the size of the Avis motor vehicle you choose, your mobility rental may come pre-stowed in your trunk.

How fast can I book mobility equipment?

To ensure equipment availability, we recommend at least 48 hours in advance for land-based rentals. For cruise-based rentals, we recommend at least 5 business days.

What are your scooter rental rates?

Who do I call if my mobility equipment breaks down?

Scootaround can be reached seven days a week. Outside of regular business hours our technical staff is on-call by pager.

What if I require a heavy duty scooter for my use?

If your weight requirements involve the use of a heavy duty scooter, please call us directly at 1-888-441-7575. With advance notice, we can deliver a suitable scooter directly to your hotel or convention hall. Depending on the size of the Avis motor vehicle you choose (van or SUV), we may be able to have the mobility rental stowed and ready for your use.

How do I pay for the mobility equipment?

Scootaround accepts payment by major credit card, such as Visa and Mastercard.

Can I drop off the mobility equipment at a different location other than where it was rented?

Transportable scooters must be dropped off at the location where they were rented. However, we may be able to arrange for a special pick up under special circumstances. Please call a Scootaround representative directly at 1-888-441-7575.

When do I recharge the mobility equipment's batteries?

The battery requires charging each day. Simply plug the power cord into a standard outlet at the end of your day and allow it to charge overnight.

Will my larger scooter fit into the trunk of a car?

Some standard weight scooters can be disassembled and loaded into the trunk of a medium-to-full-sized car (with the heaviest piece weighing somewhere between 40 and 60lbs). Heavy duty scooters and powerchairs cannot be disassembled and will require a mini-van or SUV for easy transport.

YES! Scootaround provides service in well over 500 locations with new cities being added regularly. Visit our locations page to view a listing of the cities on your destination plans.
