Travel
agents serving disabled or mobility impaired clients
have a new resource in Scootaround Inc.’s new
informative Web site that provides extensive information
on travel for the disabled, as well as an online booking
capability.
Agents can also obtain the company’s complimentary
content-rich online newsletter, The ScooterNews.
Lee Meagher, president of Scootaround, views the newsletter
and Web site as a point of contact for agents to reassure
their clients that mobility impairments do not preclude
hassle-free travel – including cruises —
and to open sales opportunities in a growth market.
The ScooterNews provides invaluable information on scooter
use.
Agents can sign up to receive The ScooterNews online
at www.scootaround.com. The newsletter will be e-mailed.
The newsletter provides insight into how people use
scooters and face mobility challenges.
"Our
site -- and The ScooterNews -- can be a point of departure
for travel agents to sell travel to families with an
individual who needs a scooter to get around at their
destination. Too often families with someone with an
impairment postpone or forego travel," said Meagher,
who founded the company in 1997.
Scooter
Rentals
Scootaround provides reliable and affordable
scooter and wheelchair rentals in the U.S., Canada and
Europe, delivering the scooter to the client’s
choice of hotel, resort, cruise line and airport at
the chosen destination. One client was Luciano Pavarotti,
the famed Italian tenor. Scootaround estimates that
scooters are rented at over 200 conventions a year.
Meagher
added that, as the population ages, the market for scooters
will grow.
Building
Awareness
Only about 15% of Scootaround’s sales
now come from travel agents. However, Meagher believes
that Scootaround’s travel agency sales will increase
as the company builds awareness of its services. "Scooters
are indispensable for many and are widely used at conventions
by attendees with even a temporary impairment,"
she said.
"We
want to work with travel agents, tour operators, industry
suppliers and convention and incentive travel organizers
who can benefit from our services," said Meagher.
