December 18, 2007 - If you're a mobility scooter user requiring the use of a rental car for your next trip, your travel plans have just been made easier! Hot on the heels of our successful, "Scooter in Your Trunk" rental program, Scootaround customers can now book Avis rental vehicles directly from the Scootaround website. This will save not only save you time but you'll also be able to take advantage of special customer pricing on all Avis vehicle rentals.

The original scooter-in-your-trunk concept was developed to answer the scooter/rental car question. Customers would often ask us if their Scootaround rental scooter would fit in the trunk of the motor vehicle they were planning to rent. In keeping with our goal to provide a full range of mobility products and services, we worked together with the team in the Avis Cares program to develop a joint scooter/motor vehicle rental program in a selected group of cities.

The original rental program offered three and four-wheeled transportable scooters. These units are lightweight, extremely sturdy and offered the very latest in technology and safety features. Typical transportable models are well suited for travelers up to 300lbs and travel for up to ten miles on a single charge. This proved to be a popular choice since the scooters could be disassembled in minutes for easy transport in most mid-sized vehicles. As the program grew, we began offering different types of scooters, based on the specific needs of the customer. If your motor vehicle will stow the scooter, Scootaround will provide the rental.

Once this idea caught on with our rental customers, they began asking about Scootaround/Avis rentals in other locations. After additional planning and program development, we began offering the scooter rental program in 48 major US centers. To add to this extended coverage, we also began providing Avis vehicle rentals directly from our 7-day call center and via the www.scootaround.com website. This means that rental customers can now save time by calling Scootaround directly for their combination scooter/motor vehicle needs.

As a result, we've helped provide many satisfied customers with scooter and motor vehicle "combos" from Washington to Maine (and many places in between). As the exclusive provider of mobility scooter rentals at these select Avis locations, we are happy to be a part of Avis Cares and look forward to developing new ways to make your travels plans the best they can be.
