Exploring the Miami-Dade County Fair

Published on March 10, 2015

This year the Miami-Dade County Fair celebrates its 64th birthday, and from March 12th through April 5th you can explore an amazing array of events and exhibits that truly do offer something for everyone. Here’s a run-down of what you can do at the fair this year:

Check out a concert or two. Love disco? Then you’re going to want to see Kool and the Gang play on March 21st. There are also Christian music concerts, a big country concert (artist yet to be announced), Latin music, and a whole bunch of 80s acts performing too.

Admire the agricultural exhibits. There’s an open cattle show and youth agricultural exhibits and competitions throughout the county fair. Prepare to smile lots as you watch young kids showing off their beloved agricultural projects, and enjoy the authenticity and down-home atmosphere that agricultural shows always bring.

Eat exotic and unusual fair food. Ever eaten a Sticky Pig on a Stick? No? Well, if you do decide to try this creation consisting of two chocolate fudge dipped strawberry custard filled donuts rolled in candied bacon, you may well have difficulty eating much else. And that would be a shame, as there is much more to try throughout the fair, whether you’re craving BBQ, tacos, or Watermelon Beer.

Shop ‘til you drop. As one of the US’s largest fairs, you’ll find a huge array of goods to buy both outside in the sunshine where there are huge outdoor malls to browse through, or inside one of the massive exhibition halls. Be sure to take plenty of spending money.

Prepare to be entertained. You’ll find a full-on circus at this year’s Miami-Dade County Fair, as well as an illusionist show, high-dive act, world-famous juggler, and clowns roaming the fair. There are also pig races (yee-haw!), a breakdancing troupe, and a butterfly house where you can be surrounded by and learn all about these beautiful insects. This is on top of the ninety thrill-rides and two huge children’s play areas that of course bring many, many families to this event.
