Driving and Parking in Honolulu
In Honolulu, vehicles displaying handicap tags or disability license plates, including Disabled Veterans, are granted special parking privileges. These vehicles can park in designated disabled parking spaces, which are clearly marked with blue paint and the International Symbol of Access (wheelchair symbol). Additionally, there are numerous public parking facilities and street parking options throughout the city, many of which offer accessible spaces to accommodate visitors with disabilities.
Disabled parking permits issued in other states and countries are valid for parking across Hawaii. Make sure to display your disabled placard or license plate prominently when parking in these designated areas.

However, Waikiki is much more than just a beach – it's a happening neighborhood dotted with resorts, restaurants, and nightlife destinations that beckon travelers seeking serenity and excitement.
Do not take your Scootaround mobility scooter or manual wheelchair out onto Waikiki Beach itself, as these devices are not meant to operate on sand. Please stick to the boardwalk areas and paths instead. If you’d like to venture out onto the beach, there are all-terrain beach wheelchairs available on a first-come, first-served basis at the nearby Kuhio Beach Park.
Honolulu Zoo

Located in the Waikiki neighborhood, Honolulu Zoo is home to a collection of over 900 animals, including beloved favorites like elephants, giraffes, and lions. Established in 1914, the zoo is unique, in part, thanks to its lush tropical setting, which allows visitors to view the animals in habitats that mimic their natural environments.
The Honolulu Zoo is fully wheelchair accessible and provides convenient parking spaces near its entrance. There are also smooth pathways and ramps throughout its premises.
